Parkinson Café begins national expansion in 2017

Beginning in 2017, organizations may register to initiate a new Parkinson Café series in any local community in the United States.

Parkinson Café Founder Lynn B. Schramek created a Parkinson Café Leaders Guide, which provides step-by-step instructions for how to create a Parkinson Café. Each series will be posted under Upcoming Events on this website.

The Parkinson Cafe is designed to provide positive social, cultural and intellectual interaction for people living with Parkinson's disease and their care partners. Participants enhance quality of life by learning how to manage the symptoms caused by PD, enjoying creative art opportunities, and developing meaningful connections.

The cost to register for a Parkinson Cafe series is only $250 annually when the local leader(s) plan programming and facilitate sessions following the leader's guide with up to five hours of Lynn's consultation. Additional support is available upon request.

Those interested should contact Lynn to discuss whether a local or national Parkinson's foundation, or other company, should sponsor each series. These partnerships are beneficial because our local and national sponsors provide educational materials and other support. Sponsor are recognized on program publicity and this website. Non-profit foundations receive a copy of each event's sign-in sheet, so they can arrange community grants to underwrite this program.

In upstate New York, Lifetime Care, a homecare agency in Rochester, and the Highlands of Pittsford host Parkinson Cafe series in partnership with NPF Greater Rochester. In Florida, NeuroChallenge Foundation for Parkinson's partners with the Parkinson Cafe to serve the PD community in Sarasota, Bradenton, St. Petersburg, and New Port Richie, FL.
