The beginning of the year is always a time to reflect and look back on all the things we have accomplished in the past year. But it is also a time to acknowledge the items left undone. For most people, living a healthy life is an ongoing process. Beginning this year we should first step back and take stock of what it is that we really want, what we consider the good life to be, and then think about how best we might achieve it.

Catherine Liott will facilitate a healing art workshop. Each person will create a collage God box to release their worries.

Life’s twists and turns always brought Cathy back to expressing and healing herself through the arts. She considers creativity a birthright and after receiving a Certificate in Expressive Arts Facilitating at Expressive Arts Florida Institute, and a BA and MS in Art and Education, she enjoys facilitating “Playshops” designed to create a safe container for those attending to witness one another and trust the process of creating for the sake of creating!

Amanda Schlachter, an actress, director and teacher, and Christine Alexander, founding member of FST Improv, will guide you through a series of games, exercises and improvisations for self expression and creativity. 

You will take away a greater sense of how to use your voice and body while having laughed, played and bonded in unique ways with friends and family.

Art Therapy and Parkinson's Disease

Cara Levitt, a Board Certified and Registered Art Therapist, and owner of Draw It Out Therapy, will promote creativity, connection, peace and joy with a group art activity.

She has her Master's Degree in Art Therapy from Eastern Virginia Medical School.

Dr. Ricardo Gonzalez, a neurologist with Intercoastal Medical Group in Sarasota, will share the latest PD treatment options and respond to your questions. He received his medical degree from Pontifical Xavierian University and has been in practice for 24 years. He is affiliated with multiple hospitals in the area, including Doctors Hospital of Sarasota and Sarasota Memorial Hospital.

Joe Allen of Medtronic will accompany him to answer questions about DBS.

Lizz Pugh, LMT, Massage Educator & Touch Coach, Lakewood Ranch Medical Massage, will present information on the benefits of massage for Parkinson's and will demonstrate gentle and easy basic massage strokes to the audience.

Pugh graduated from the Sarasota School of Massage Therapy in 2003 and has deeply enjoyed helping people reclaim their comfort since then. 

She focuses on educating her patients as much as possible, and on giving them the tools they need to carry their healing forward between sessions. She also works privately with couples and families to teach the gift of massage.
